THE BREAKAWAYS “Walking Out On Love (The Lost Sessions)” (CD)

The Breakaways (NSX Review)

This band was a sort of side project (of sorts) from Peter Case and Paul Collins (circa LA 1978) that took place after THE NERVES demise... Trying out different possible band mates and songs... Its a good thing(most of the time) to go ahead and hit the record button because you never know what's gonna come of it. yeah, it may have taken 30 years, but here this group of songs exist... And they need/needed to be heard. The quality goes up and down from mid-fi to lo-fi but all of it has a certain ring to it for ear like mine that enjoy a bit of abbrasive-ness in their rock and roll from time to time. This is for fans of THE REAL KIDS or other power-pop/punk back when it all was still considered new-wave. There's some gems on this one like “Working Too Hard” or “Little Suzy” or the highly addictive fist-pumping (but not in the MTV Lame-ass JERSEY SHORE style of fist-pumping) “Radio Station” that I bet TEENGENERATE really would like.

Writer's Block: Killer tomatoes

What's your favorite cult film of all time, and why? What are the essential ingredients for a cult classic?

MAD MAX...

All the one liners and design of the film... The cool characters and dialogue... Sheesh. This is one movie I can watch over and over and over and never get tired of.

How do you feel about human cloning? Do you think the long-term societal impact will be positive or negative? Why?

The impact of cloning will definitely be NEGATIVE.

Because even though they can work medical wonders doing such task, as cloning, the real reason to perform cloning will be to field vast armies of soldiers or re-create historical figures for everyone to tug around on leashed like pets or whatever... Whatever evil they want to do will be shrouded in whatever good reason they tell you.

Somewhere in all of this, THEY think they will live forever in some form or another... THAT scares me.

PREPARE FOR THE NEXT COLA WAR
So the dream of atomic satellites
falling into my backyard has returned again,
spelling certain DOOM (D-O-O-M).
And songs on the radio set the mood (M-O-O-D).
Each along with each on the evening news.

At all department stores in-between all the sales,
are booths that tell you to
“Take the Challenge”
It’s all so FITTING! It feels so RIGHT...

In a day and age where the STALEMATE is celebrated...
I go shopping with my family
and find myself wallet deep
in a consumer cold war.
“This cold war is heating up.”
(I love it when the History Channel sez that!)

One side claims victory as does the other side.
HOW TYPICAL!
This is also known as ‘Negative Publicity.’
So go back to those special times
of YESTERYEAR or TOMORROW...
Whatever your case may be.
Wherever your case may be.
...

YOU CAN FIGHT THE FUTURE
BUT YOUR NOT GOING TO WIN!

...

When the aisles and departments of our stores
have become BATTLEGROUNDS
of DEALS and VALUES and SALES...
You learn that YOU CAN FIGHT THE PRESENT
but your not going to win!
Because a market study said so!

ATTENTION! ATTENTION!
There's casualties in GENERAL MERCHANDISE.
A battalion of old people are bogged down
in the bargain isles.
A 2.5 kid family has gone MIA
in the LAWN AND GARDEN area.
Headline’s on the papers
catch the corner of your eye.
With BOLD words and BRIGHT colors...

They all say: “Celebrate the Walking Ranger.”
EACH and ALL OF THEM! (That means ALL of THEM)
You don't ‘get it’ but you act like you do...
So as you don't look DUMB
(but it’s too late for that Rich!)

Listen and Listen good:
YOU CAN FIGHT THE PAST
and all its associated nightmares
and MAYBE win, but don't get cocky!

Pick your product.
Pick your side.
Choose now in this COLA WAR.
Now... Or soon. OR ELSE!

Note concerning this poem: I have decided to post this poem here, for anyone who see's this sight to show that I do consider myself a poet and write poetry... The below poem was originally published in a book of my poetry called SINKING SHIPS ARE BEAUTIFUL released in April of 2006 by The Neus Subjex... And later re-edited around 2009 or so. The version below is the re-edited version. Copies of SINKING SHIPS ARE BEAUTIFUL are no longer available.

Writer's Block: Obama drama

How do you think President Obama is doing so far? If you're an American citizen, would you vote the same way (whether for or against)? If you're not, what's your take on Obama's performance? Did his State of the Union address sway your opinion in any way?

He is doing as well as I think anyone else would be doing in his shoes. He has a lot going against him. Its an uphill struggle the whole way.

Im kinda glad the health reform bill failed as he had designed... I want universal health coverage for FREE, not another insurance plan that still gets me bills, in any form in my mailbox...

Plus, I wasnt looking forward to how rich business owners who feel cornered by Obama were going to do to their employees to punish them...Due to the health bill or anything else. Because when Obama was elected I first handedly seen some of this punishment for myself.

And about the auto-bailout... I just wish the price of GM cars would reflect by prices something in return for being government backed... GM should run like a non-profit organization now.

Lay-offs were promised, and lay-off were done as promised after the election...

If I could have voted (registered to late) in the election, I planned on voting for SNAKE (doing a write in)... Because by casting a vote for a snake, I figured I would definitely win.

Writer's Block: 2010 Health & Fitness Goals

What are your health and fitness goals for 2010? Do you have a plan for how to achieve them?

I plan to walk more and run less. Im trying to drink LESS water and more irish whiskey. I would like to increase my sugar intake, of which continues my fight against the H1N1 virus.
